Otoplasty and Older Patients?

As a plastic surgeon who happens to perform a ton of cosmetic ear surgery – like otoplasty and macrotia ear reduction – Dr. Hilinski will occasionally see a patient who is older than the average.

Many people ask – why would someone, for example, in their 70s seek out plastic surgery to make their ears look less prominent? Well, sometimes the answer has to do with the fact that many patients in this age range tend to have much thinner hair – making it more and more challenging to keep their ears hidden from others. This is one factor that most people – with a healthy head of hair – simply don’t think about – but the concern is real.
